Why Epsom salt rules? Magnesium and sulfate both play essential parts in the ways in which our bodies function, and reports indicate that more than half of Americans have a magnesium deficiency. Epsom salt can help with psoriasis and eczema - a battle I constantly face to the point where my hands are cracked and bleeding. And it helps remove toxins from your body. What's not to love?

DIY All Natural Bath Salts

Making your own bath salts is a beneficial adventure that won't cost you a lot of time or money. You can customize your scents and add-ins to suit your physical, mental, spiritual, or emotional needs. Handmade bath salts also make simple, thoughtful gifts for your friends and family. Package them in any form or fashion that strikes your fancy: Perhaps a repurposed jar with a whimsical label, an apothecary bottle with a vintage label, or a wooden jar with a kraft label.

If you aren't one to take baths, no problem! Bath salts also make amazing foot soaks for busy, tired feet. Give yourself an at-home pedicure or just relax after a grueling day.

Your salts can be as varied as you want them to be. Kosher salt dissolves quickly in water. Flaked salt dissolves even faster. Himalayan sea salt looks gorgeous in a glass jar. Fleur de sel, a crystalline salt, dissolves more slowly.

Add fragrance and other add-ins to create the aroma you most enjoy: Citrus scents for energy; spicy scents to warm you up on a cold day; floral scents for a touch of romance; medicinal scents for colds, the flu, and seasonal allergies; or herbaceous scents for a more earthy or masculine note.

Bath salts can also be used as a base for bath bombs.

Make It

You will need
Epsom salt
Sea salt
Baking soda
Fragrance of your choice (Essential oils are a natural way to add scent and they provide many therapeutic properties to your bath)
Add-ins such as flower buds, citrus zest, bath safe colorant, or tea leaves
Mixing spoon
Mixing bowl
Storage container

Mix equal parts of baking soda, sea salt, and Epsom salt in a bowl until well combined. Add fragrance of your choice. Stir in add-ins if using. Pour into container.

Voila! Your bath salts are ready to enjoy.

Use It

For the Bath: Drop 4 tablespoons (2 oz) of bath salt into warm water. Swirl to dissolve. Immerse yourself and soak for at least 12 minutes for maximum benefit.

For the Foot Bath: Drop 1 tablespoon (0.5 oz) of bath salt into warm water. Swirl to dissolve. Immerse your feet and soak for at least 12 minutes for maximum benefit.

Update on the great #natural #deodorant experiment: I've been using my handmade Lavender and Lemongrass deodorant for two months now (I know, TMI). It works so well, and I just love the smell of it. The thing about natural deodorants is that you still sweat when you wear them, which is good, but, when the #ATX temperatures hit the 100s this summer, I may be singing a different tune. We shall see... :-)
